Community Commitment

Bowie & Jensen embraces the idea that we have a responsibility to give back to the communities that give so much to us. The idea of giving back is an essential component of the law firm and allows our lawyers and staff to work with the community as partners, family and friends.

Every attorney, paralegal and member of the office staff has been impacted by a community story, crisis, need or cause. Whether it’s breaking news, a local issue, or a member of the Bowie & Jensen family that’s sick or in need – the Bowie & Jensen team has responded.

Attorneys combine donations from the firm’s community service budget with sweat equity – hours of pro bono work and free legal advice and counsel, and sometimes hands-on help like manning community races, or coaching rec sports teams.

Here are some examples of our community work:

Community Hospital Work – Union Memorial Hospital

Bowie & Jensen is committed to building partnerships within the local community to further promote community health.  By establishing and maintaining strong partnerships, Bowie & Jensen can be a positive voice and advocate for our community and a support to our valued medical professionals.

Our work with Union Memorial is one example. Bowie & Jensen has been part of the Union Memorial Hospital and MedStar family since 2000, with our firm’s co-founder both serving on and chairing the Hospital Board. In the last 10 years, Union Memorial has been named one of Thomson Reuters 100 Top Hospitals®, received the Delmarva Foundation Excellence Award for Quality Improvement three times, and been named one of the nation’s top 50 hospitals for diabetes and endocrinology, orthopedics, heart care and surgery, and geriatric care by U.S. News & World Report, to name a few.

We’re proud to work with Union Memorial and MedStar, and we support their commitment to community health care.

Leukemia & Lymphoma Society

The Bowie & Jensen family was personally affected by Lymphoma when the wife of one of our partners was diagnosed with the disease.

Turning adversity into action, Bowie & Jensen became an official sponsor of the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society’s Light The Night Walk. Each year, in communities all across the United States, families, friends, neighbors, and teams from local businesses and national companies come together for The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society’s Light The Night Walk and walk in twilight, holding illuminated balloons – white for survivors, red for supporters, and gold in memory of loved ones lost. The funds raised help provide research, financial assistance for patients, educational materials and local programs.

We are pleased to report that our partner’s wife walks with the white balloon for survivors, and recently celebrated her fifth year of being cancer-free.

Community Youth Sports

Bowie & Jensen is committed to mentoring young athletes in our community. In conjunction with parents and teachers, coaches are among the most influential adults in the lives of children. Bowie & Jensen attorneys and staff can be seen in and around the community on soccer and lacrosse fields, basketball courts and just about anywhere there are groups of kids in need of coaching.

While we volunteer in many of the area recreation programs, those who should be getting all the credit are the kids who continue to give us great memories. It’s the small things that stay with us. The baseball player who finally hit that elusive ball, the basketball team that lost in the semis but won our respect, the lacrosse team that hit the field with pony tails and bows but were fierce, fair and gracious competitors. Season after season, one of our favorite phrases is “play ball.”
